Whether you have straight or curved applications,
Shot-form will save money on every shotcrete or
gunite project.
Advantages over
wood or modular forms:
- Forms Easily: Shot-form easily forms into multiple
configurations to accommodate curves and unusual shapes.
To make corner bends, ribs are notched to a 90-degree
angle by making two 45-degree cuts, leaving the mesh between
the ribs intact. By bending the remaining mesh to the
desired angle or radius, a perfectly formed corner or
shape is created. Curves form easily in a direction parallel
to the ribs. A full circle tube can be formed with Shot-form.
Such a wide variety of form shapes are possible that it
is impossible to describe all the flexibility this product
offers. Many more shapes are attainable using Shot-form
than by using other materials such as wood, steel or plastic.
Multiple sections of Shot-form can be joined end to end
with a 3-inch to 4-inch lap. End laps should always be
braced with a support. To accomplish a side lap, over
lap one or two ribs.
- Easily Attaches to Reinforcing Steel: Shot-form
used as a backstop for shotcrete or gunite is most often
attached directly to the reinforcing steel grid using
tie wire. Since one can easily see through Shot-form,
tying Shot-form to reinforcing steel is easily accomplished.
Some contractors report a 40% saving in forming costs.
- Excellent Steel Coverage: Shot-form greatly
reduces the amount of rebound during the shotcrete process,
concrete build up occurs quickly. This helps to assure
excellent coverage of all reinforcing steel. Remember
too that Shot-form allows for visual inspection of the
shotcrete application from the backside of the form, when
accessible. This insures that no voids have been created.
- Cuts to Size Easily: Shot-form is packaged in
five sheet bundles that are wire tied together. Single
or multiple lengths or pieces can be cut utilizing a circular
saw with an abrasive metal cutting blade. Tin snips or
metal shears are used to notch small areas or ribs. Shot-form
is manufactured from high strength steel and can be formed
into a variety of shapes, performing well in tight curves
and bends.
- Easily Penetrated: Shot-form can easily be snipped
(sheared) or punched to accommodate penetrations such
as rebars, conduit, or dowels. Often a sharpened length
of rebar is employed for this procedure.
- No Stripping Required: Shot-form is a stay-in-place
concrete form that requires no stripping. This means that
you can leave the pry bar in the truck. Nothing is more
labor intensive than prying plywood out of tight corners
after a shotcrete application. Shot-form provides not
only a labor savings in stripping cost, but also saves
time and money that would be spent cleaning, oiling, moving
and storing the plywood forms. The cost of form release
agents is also saved.
- Shoot One Side Today and the Next Side Tomorrow:
Shot-form stays-in-place and is never stripped, allowing
the contractor to shoot one side today and the other side
tomorrow. Minimal set up time is necessary because no
stripping is required. The contractor need only
wait for the first shoot to be stiff enough not to be
disturbed by the pressure of the second shotcrete application.
- Saves concrete: The contractor, utilizing either
the dry or the wet shotcrete process, will realize a savings
in concrete usage and gain speed in the application process
due to the greatly reduced amount of rebound that occurs
when using Shot-form. Concrete readily adheres or bonds
to the openings in Shot-form. This reduced rebound increases
productivity and saves material. A saving in material
translates into savings in money.
- Less Back Filling is necessary: Shot-form does
not require stripping, therefore, the amount of backfill
required in the smaller area behind the form is greatly
reduced. Because the contractor does not have access to
the back of the form to strip, less area must be left
clear behind the form. This saves excavation cost. Shot-form
allows air to reach the back of the concrete sooner and
promotes faster set up and curing, allowing back filling
to take place sooner. This saves time and reduces equipment
rental costs.
- Saves Time and Money: All of the above adds
up to a savings of time and labor, which translates into
financial savings on every project. The old adage rings
true, "Time is money".
Shot-form will save you money on every
project.
